Description:

We are a prekindergarten age 3 through Grade 12 international school in Tokyo Japan. Established in 2001, we are dual language in English and Japanese (all subjects) and multi-age by design, with a three year age range of students and 2 teachers per class all of the way through high school. We use the Scottish curriculum for excellence which is developmental rather than statutory by age grade and we are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). We belong to the Japan Council of International Schools and the the Tokyo Association of International Preschools in Japan, and identify with CES and the Progressive Education Network in the USA. The design of the secondary school was especially inspired by the Compass School and the Putney School in Vermont. Our arts and music program is exceptional, with (for example), with all of the students learning to play the violin by the Suzuki method from age 6.

Our 2016 Essential Question:

How to we make transcripts that reflect the reality of the school for college applications without making them several pages long?

Our Competencies and Strengths:

Multiage, Dual Language, Progressive Education, Translanguaging and Vygotskian approach to multiage education and language acquisition. We are a highly innovative school in the context of the international school options in Japan.
