Description:

The Peak School is an independent school serving students in grades 6 - 12. Founded in 2012 on the Ten Common Principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools, in its fifth year Peak has reached its full grade range and will graduate our first class in May 2017. The only independent school in Summit County, we are accredited by AdvancEd and certified by the Department of Homeland Security to issue I-20 forms to enroll international students. Our student:teacher ratio is 8:1, with an average of 10 students per class. Current enrollment is 70 students, including four international students from China, Japan, and Sweden, all living with host families.

Students are empowered to take responsibility for the learning in the classroom and their participation in our community. Features of our program include weekly democratic Forums led by students; a student-led restorative justice program called Choices; students participate in all school committees, including policy-making and hiring committees. We also feature a Mandarin Chinese language program (in addition to Spanish); and an Outdoor Education Program that takes full advantage of our location in the Rocky Mountains surrounded by five of the best ski resorts in North America.

Our Upper School students receive intensive, personalized college counseling from two professional independent counselors and college admission test prep course from professional tutors, all included in the tuition. The school benefits from a very high level of participation by parents in the life of the school.
