The Right Question Institute (RQI) is a small nonprofit in Cambridge, MA. RQI’s mission is to disseminate an innovative educational strategy that builds the capacity of all people, no matter their level of income or education, to advocate for themselves and participate more effectively in decision-making processes that affect them.
RQI’s work includes the dissemination of an educational strategy called the Question Formulation Technique (QFT). The QFT provides teachers a simple yet powerful methodology to elicit students' questions, enhance students’ learning experience, and build students’ critical thinking skills. The strategy is described in Make Just One Change: Teach Students How to Ask Their Own Questions (Rothstein & Santana, 2011), which is one of Harvard Education Press’ all-time best sellers. Since Make Just One Change was published, the QFT has been used by over 100,000 educators around the world.
This summer, The Right Question Institute (RQI) is providing three opportunities around the United States to learn from experienced practitioners and educators about how to use the Question Formulation Technique (QFT). Educators from pre-K through higher education, from all subject areas, and in a remarkably diverse range of communities across the country and the world have used the QFT, and this is a chance for you to share with and learn from fellow educators.
Best Practices in the QFT Conference is relevant to all educators who want to increase student excitement about learning, bring greater joy to their own work, and help build the fundamental democratic habit of mind question-asking promotes.
For any teacher, school, or district working to improve questioning and engagement in the classroom (as in Danielson’s 3b and 3c, C3 Framework, Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core Standards, etc.), Best Practices in the QFT Conference will offer an abundance of resources to address these standards.
