Job Description: Preschool Director
Camino Nuevo is a public charter school serving low-income, primarily immigrant children in the greater MacArthur Park/Westlake area near downtown. As a school of choice, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy’s unique ability to couple academic success with a wealth of community resources leads to students who are “college ready, college bound”, and prepared for civic engagement. Camino Nuevo is currently looking for a dynamic and committed individual to join our team!
Work Basis: Full Time, 12 Month
Salary: Competitive Salary
Description: The Director has primary responsibility for all aspects of the early childhood education program operation, providing leadership and direction to the activities involved in its effective development and management. The Director will supervise three full-time teachers and staff. The Director plans, organizes and directs the operation of the Pre-School Program.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the educational program and ensures a responsible environment for the optimum growth and development of the children
• Provide leadership and advocacy for families and children served by these programs.
• Supervise, monitor and evaluate performance of certificated, classified, and supervisory staff.
• Demonstrates effective team building, including recruitment, hiring, and placement of staff.
• Provides opportunities for professional growth for employees, and assist staff in the process of needs assessment, establishing objectives and evaluating performance.
• Assures program fiscal soundness including developing the program budget in collaboration with the Executive Director, monitoring income, expenses and preparing compliance reports.
• Assists in meeting annual programmatic fundraising goal through grant writing and donor cultivation.
• Prepare and submit required reports and applications to local, state, and federal agencies.
• Function as liaison to county, state, and federal education departments.
• Maintains a positive and supportive relationship to the community and other early childhood agencies and professional organizations in order to promote the Agency's image as a provider of quality child care.
• Become familiar with and operate within “funding terms and agreements” for all grants
Qualifications: Qualifications:
• Masters Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education
• Meet the California Dept. of Ed. Child Development requirements for a director’s permit
• At least 2 years of teaching experience and 3 years of administrative experience
• Knowledge of grant writing, budgeting and funding terms
• Bilingual (English and Spanish)
