Sr. Director of Finance and Administration - Year Up

Job Description:
Year Up Sr. Director of Finance and Administration Organization The mission of Year Up is to close the Opportunity Divide in our country by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support to empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. Year Up, founded in 2000, currently has 115 full-time employees working together to support the mission through a high-support, high-expectation model that combines marketable job skills, stipends, corporate apprenticeships, college-level coursework, a behavior guidance system and several levels of support to place these young adults on a viable path to economic self-sufficiency. An intensive training and education program serves urban young adults, ages 18-24, in Atlanta, Boston, New York City, Providence, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Excellent results have been achieved to date: 100% placement of qualified students into apprenticeships, 90% of apprentices meet or exceed partner expectations, 87% of graduates placed in full or part-time positions, and a $14/hr average wage at placement. For more information, please visit www.yearup.org Position This role is a new position that will oversee a current team of four including an associate director of finance, a controller, a finance manager and a finance specialist. S/he will report directly to Sue Meehan, the National Director of Operations and Finance. The successful candidate for this position will be smart, strategic, diplomatic and proactive. S/he must also be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment. In addition to these key responsibilities, the finalist will be joining a team who provides leadership in creating and sustaining a positive educational environment, with trust among students and staff. In keeping with Year Up’s values, each staff member interacts with students and often incorporates some advising and/or mentoring into his/her work. Responsibilities Financial Management and Oversight •Oversee cash flow planning, investment, asset management, and ensure availability of funds •Ensure timeliness and accuracy of monthly and annual financial statements •Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions •Oversee annual audit and proper filing of tax returns •Create, measure and implement a robust financial management/reporting system, including grants management •Design and implement financial systems that meet the needs of national expansion •Shepherd the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual •Oversee all accounting functions to ensure proper maintenance of systems and appropriate internal controls •Manage and oversee all financial systems and databases ensuring accurate and high quality data Administration, HR and Legal •Work closely and transparently with all external partners including audit firm, financial and other consultants, as well as national vendors; create economies of scale that benefit the overall organization •Lead all Human Resources administrative and compliance issues: organizing and maintaining proper documentation and HRIS systems, compensation, benefits and payroll •Facilities management – liaise with operations staff across all sites to ensure efficient and consistent operations •Real Estate Planning - negotiation of leases, ensuring adequate program and administrative space needs, etc. •Oversee compliance function and ensure organization is meeting all necessary legal requirements •Risk Management – work closely with the senior team to minimize exposure to risk Team Leadership, Planning and Strategy •Together with the National Director of Finance & Operations, this position will lead and facilitate the annual budget planning process; direct and administer all financial plans and budgets; and monitor progress. •Develop financial business plans and forecasts; analyze program effectiveness and model growth projections. •Participate in organization-wide policy decisions as member of the Senior Director team. •Lead, develop and manage the Finance and Administration team, including an Associate Director of Finance, Controller, Finance Manager and Finance Coordinator. •Liaise with senior leaders and line program staff to ensure that future financial needs are accommodated •Work closely with senior development staff to ensure clarity around long term funding requirements.

Qualifications:
•A CPA and/or MBA with at least 5 years experience in a senior level finance role, preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of $8 million or more •Experience in a senior role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies •Experience with finance and accounting software packages. Experience with MIP a plus. •Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills. •Excellent analytical and organizational skills. •Demonstrated leadership ability in a flexible, team oriented, and high growth environment.
