The Crest Academy is a public middle school of choice in rural Colorado. We serve 28 students in grades 5-8. Our philosophy is rooted in project and place based principles. We strive to provide a community rich in experiential, authentic and life worthy skills and empower middle schoolers to listen to their deep intuition and develop their voices to make the world a better place.
Theme: Let's play. Question: How can we lead a playful existence AND leave our community better than we find it? (Our community economy is based in tourism and outdoor recreation)
Our students develop a strong confidence for exploring the world outside of our school walls. Students develop strong communication, research and problem solving skills through rich authentic lessons. I am most impressed with the collaboration that students share with adults and the competency they develop for higher level thinking skills. I am also proud to say that these kids are happy and love to learn! There is a culture that "learning is cool" and students can be themselves, while developing into well rounded individuals without the mainstream middle-school pressures to blend into the hallways.
