Family Engagement VISTA
The Learning Community is hiring full-time AmeriCorps*VISTA members. The Learning Community is a vibrant public school serving Central Falls, Providence and Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The Learning Community is a K-8 school serving over 550 students directly and hundreds of other teachers and students in schools where we work as professional development partners. At The Learning Community, we believe that literacy empowers each individual to have a voice, assume community responsibility and take social action. We expect leadership at every level. We grow teacher leaders, student leaders and community leaders.

The Learning Community, an innovative urban K-8 charter school with an 86% poverty rate, 57% Spanish-speaking families and high student achievement, is a warm and welcoming school that believes deeply in the voices of teachers, students and families. The Family Engagement VISTA will work to research, evaluate and develop systems and mechanisms to enable families to a part of their student’s education. The Learning Community has had a strong commitment to include families in the work of their student and this VISTA will enable those personal connections to be as efficient as possible, as systematic as possible, and supported more comprehensively by school-wide communication.

We seek candidates who have:
• ability to speak Spanish
• demonstrated ability to build relationships with students and families
• a strong interest in public education and public schools
• a strong desire to learn and grow as a professional
• experience working in schools with teaching professionals
• experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite preferred
• demonstrated leadership ability
• excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills
• a flexible, curious and goal‐oriented personality
• ability to work independently as well as within a larger team
• ability to take feedback and incorporate it quickly
