Job Description:

The Learning Community, a vibrant public charter school, seeks to hire a full-time Coordinator for The Learning Community’s Exploratorium program. The Exploratorium is a rigorous STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) focused program that provides hands-on experiential learning opportunities for students throughout the year, both after school and during the summer. This position will be responsible for coordinating administrative tasks related to the effective operation of the Exploratorium, as well as program assessment, communications with partners, organizing program and observations schedules, tracking attendance, and other logistics.

MAJOR ROLES:
• Provide direction and guidance to staff, aid in staff training and conduct staff meetings.
• Supervise site staff and provide written evaluation of their work performance.
• Responsible for supervising and demonstrating the ability to set and maintain limits for children using positive reinforcement.
• Create and maintain systems and processes when needed, particularly around staff coverage, data collection, recruitment and retention.
• Support planning and implementation of the Summer Camp Program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with Learning Community youth, community partners, and school administration to recruit and retain youth participants
• Help recruit and support community partners and teachers to lead programs
• Maintain the necessary records involving attendance, proper release procedures, and program registrations
• Participate in assessment trainings, program observations and program evaluations
• Participate in data-driven dialogue to inform program decisions and ensure long-term youth and program outcomes
• Review, monitor and distribute program and youth data to community partners, school administration, and program director
• Assist in hiring, training, and supervising staff to ensure quality, daily administration, program, planning, implementation, and staff/child ratios
• Ensure Learning Community program standards are met and all safety procedures are followed
• Develop and maintain relationships with school administration, parents, and other organizations related to afterschool programs
• Assist in managing staff payroll hours, billing, marketing and distribution of program information

SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Experience and passion for working with school-age urban youth.
• Ability to work with a wide-range of community and school partners in developing effective, collaborative partnerships and learning experiences.
• Ability to synthesize large amounts of information and communicate it effectively to different audiences.
• Strong computer skills, with a working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent community-based experience, along with 1 year of related professional work.
DESIRED SKILLS:
• Creativity, patience, a good work ethic, and a sense of humor.
• Understanding evaluation methodologies and interpreting statistical data.
• Working knowledge of experiential and inquiry-based learning.
• A balance of working on “start-up” projects and operating established programs.
• Planning experience (programs and events).
• Intermediate Spanish language skills.
