Job Description:

The Learning Community, a vibrant public charter school, seeks an energetic 30 hour/week Nurse to join a dynamic, strength-based team that is child- and family-centered. The Nurse is a key member of The Learning Community team and works closely with the school’s social/emotional support team in supporting children, families and classrooms. This position will be supported by our full time School Nurse Teacher.

Specific areas of responsibility include:
• Act as a proactive liaison between children, families and health care resources to access and coordinate care
• Administer first aid, medication, specialized medical treatment and health screenings
• Refer students who require further medical attention to needed treatment
• Assess situations involving students’ safety
• Maintain all health records and reporting procedures to external agencies to ensure compliance with established regulations
• Sub-nurse time provided for relief during assessments and other competing duties
• Work as part of a school-wide team to encourage healthy living
• Implement health care plans for special education students, children with chronic health problems and/or 504 accommodation requirements
• Provide training on various health related subjects or policies (e.g. CPR/First Aid, disaster preparedness, health education, etc.) as a resource to students, families, and school personnel
• Support School Nurse in providing health education to students of all grade levels in compliance with the Rhode Island Health Education Framework and the associated Comprehensive Health Instructional Outcomes.
• Track and manage health data to identify trends, improve student health outcomes and reduce spread of illness.
Qualifications:
• Current Rhode Island RN license;
• RI School Nurse Teacher certification, preferred;
• Demonstrated experience working in low-income communities;
• Passion for the mission of The Learning Community and enthusiasm for working as a member of a dynamic team;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team;
• Bilingual, English and Spanish, strongly preferred.
