Position Overview

Trillium believes in blended age classrooms, we house three Kindergarten-1st grade blends. K-1 teachers are responsible for teaching and supervising approximately 20 Kindergarten and 1st grade students. We place a high emphasis on collaboration with both same age and different age teachers. All teachers in our school serve on one of five committees. Teachers are supported through frequent meetings with their K-1 team, lower school team, committees, all staff meetings and critical friends professional learning communities. We offer frequent trainings and support depending upon identified teacher need throughout the year. Past trainings have included restorative justice, democratic education, Positive Discipline, Scottish Storyline method, Writer’s Workshop method, proficiency-based assessment, professional learning communities and others as needs arise.

Essential Job Functions

Teach reading, writing, math, science, social studies, PE and other subjects to class of approximately 20 K-1 grade students

In coordination with K-1 team and Head of Lower School, work to design and implement curriculum for all K-1 grade classes.

In coordination with K-1 team and Head of Lower School, create and implement at least two Scottish Storylines over the course of the school year.

Compile twice yearly report cards (January and June).

Engage in twice yearly (November and April) parent-teacher-student conferences.

Prepare students for formal assessments to meet district and state requirements including preparation for Kindergarten readiness assessments, and compiling and assessing work samples.

Serve as an academic advisor for approximately 20 students, including offering social/emotional support, and serving as community touchstone for student and family.

Collaborate with Student Support Specialist on discipline and community membership, including but not limited to Restorative Justice circles.

Participate in collaborative leadership structure through K-1 team, lower school and all staff meetings.

Serve on one of five committees in monthly meetings. Committees include leadership, teaching & learning, equity, student support and operations.

Participate in critical friends style professional learning community.

Manage student information through Synergy electronic database. Includes daily attendance and grade tracking.

Offer a differentiated curriculum that creates learning and assessment opportunities for a wide range of ability levels.

Approach problems with flexibility, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking.
