November 5 – 7, 2015 Portland, Maine |
When you join CES, you join a conversation about what it means to bring your best professional self to the children, families, and communities you serve. But we know that CES isn’t the only conversation you’re having and we know that we’re not the only ones having this conversation.
FALL FORUM 2015: Connecting Conversation is about bringing together long-time CES members with new voices and building new networks of like-minded change agents including students, parents, community activists, and civic leaders. We want to build a coalition that extends beyond our own because we’re more powerful when we work together! Please invite your colleagues to join us in Portland, Maine for a chance to learn, make new connections and explore this historic community!
The Fall Forum Schedule is Online!
We are using a new website that allows participants to check out the schedule, create an account, and plan their CES Fall Forum experience. You can tag sessions you plan to attend, network with other Fall Forum attendees, and quickly navigate through the three days.

Connected Conversations
The Coalition of Essential Schools has its roots in conversation: a conversation among schools of the core ideas in Ted Sizer’s book Horace’s Compromise. More than any other source in my life, the Coalition gave hundreds, perhaps thousands, of educators knowledge and skills for meaningful dialogue around meaningful topics. Those ideas, those conversations – and more importantly, the knowledge and skills for meaningful dialogue – are as essential today as they were 31 years ago. After a brief look at CES roots, we’ll take a look forward at the skills we need for dialogue for our emerging future. Read more about Kim here.
Pre-Conference Information
School Visits: School Visits have been a long standing feature of the Fall Forum. What better way is there to take our practice public and to demonstrate what the 10 Common Principles look like in action than to open our doors to each other?
Pre-Conference Workshops:
- CES Student Summit: Five Freedom Fighters for Democracy and Equity
- School Visits
